Record Number of Nominations

Most high school alumni associations don’t have much funding to pay for advertising when promoting events or other activities. It’s mostly been the, “send a release to the local newspaper and hope they run it” strategy.

Since becoming the Communication Committee Chair of my high school alumni association, a position created for my involvement with the board, I knew things had to be done differently.

The biggest issue lately had been the lack of nominations for the Alumni Association Hall of Fame.

The goal was simple. We needed to breathe some life back into the Hall of Fame. That needed to start with gathering more nominations than the three we had the previous year. We set our goal at ten although there had never been more than seven in any given year.

Through the quarterly online newsletter, which I had started the previous year, we ran stories about each of the HOF categories and featured a former inductee. As the deadline drew near we ramped up the Facebook and Twitter mentions where they could submit the forms online, which had never been available before. We also shared those posts to other appropriate pages.

We ended up with 24 nominations. More than three times the previous high. And according to the HOF committee chair, this is one of the strongest classes of inductees we’ve ever had.
