Build It and They will Come
I was asked by SPIRE Institute CEO Ron Clutter on November 30, 2010 to produce a promotional video to be shown by a presentation team to the US Olympic Committee on December 15 in Colorado.
The video was to promote the new SPIRE athletic complex in order for it to be chosen as a competition and training facility for US Olympic athletes. The dean of the college campus where I worked, put me “on loan” for the project.
Aimee Mullins and Michael Johnson interviews were supplied to me. Much of the action video was either supplied to me or I had in my archives from previous projects. I had been shooting video of the facility since it was a pile of dirt and large steel beams sticking up. I still had to shoot a ton of new footage, notice all the snow in the outside shots, and get this edited in less than two weeks. I also voiced the production.
SPIRE Institute is now an Olympic and Paralympic training center. The complex regularly holds high-level competitions like the Big Ten and Big East Indoor Track Championships. The aquatic center has hosted the Big East Swimming championships.
